The National Football League’s leanings toward placing games exclusively on streaming options is now headed for the postseason, as the league and NBCUniversal have announced that the Saturday night game played during January’s Wild Card weekend to be on Peacock. Peacock has subscription rates that begin at $4.99 per month.
The game, to be played on Saturday night, January 13th, will start between 7:15 and 7:30 CST. The markets of the two teams involved will receive the broadcast of the game on NBC. It will also be available on mobile device through the NFL+ package.
The placement of a wild card game on Peacock continues the trend of streaming, with Amazon Pride Video starting a run as the home of “Thursday Night Football” in 2022. One international game will continue to be available on ESPN+. On December 23rd of this year, Peacock will begin an 11-year contract with the NFL that gives the streamer one regular season game broadcast, with the Buffalo Bills playing the Los Angeles Chargers in prime time. That game will be preceded by a Cincinnati-Pittsburgh battle on NBC.
