Numerous reports that broke just before midnight indicate that the Kansas City Chiefs have signed veteran quarterback Nick Foles, reuniting the Arizona product with his first NFL coach, Andy Reid.  Foles, according to ESPN, citing an unidentified source, will sign a one-year contract with a team option for a second year.  The NFL Network first reported the Chiefs’ pending deal with Foles.

Foles was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles, then coached by Reid, in the third round of the 2012 draft.  In Kansas City, he is expected to back up Alex Smith.  The move puts added pressure to the untested duo of Tyler Bray and Aaron Murray, who had been expected to battle for the back-up position.  Now, the two may be in a battle for the third-string position, with the loser in danger of being cut before the start of the regular season.

The Los Angeles Rams released Foles before starting training camp, after being unable to trade him.  Kansas City, Dallas, and Minnesota had been mentioned in recent reports as potential landing spots for the veteran, who had his best seasons in Philadelphia before being traded to the Rams for fellow veteran quarterback Sam Bradford two years ago.

Foles has a career record of 19-16, with 53 touchdown passes and 27 interceptions.
