The NFL has announced a multiyear renewal of its carriage agreement with NFL Media, which includes some significant changes for DirecTV customers. For the first time, DirecTV customers will have access to the NFL RedZone channel as part of their subscription. This marks a new addition to the DirecTV package, allowing customers to enjoy the popular channel that provides live look-ins and highlights of games in progress.
In addition to the inclusion of NFL RedZone, the renewal agreement ensures that NFL Network will continue to be available on DirecTV. Furthermore, NFL Network will now be distributed on DirecTV Stream and U-verse, expanding its reach to customers on these platforms as well.
This development comes after the NFL entered a seven-year agreement with Google in December 2022 to distribute the NFL Sunday Ticket package to residential customers, a service that had previously been exclusive to DirecTV since 1994. However, despite the distribution changes, the Sunday Ticket package will still be available to businesses such as restaurants, bars, hotels, and others that have DirecTV for Business. This continuity is the result of a recent multiyear agreement between the NFL and EverPass Media.
Overall, these updates to the carriage agreement provide more options and expanded access for DirecTV customers, allowing them to enjoy the NFL RedZone channel and NFL Network through their subscription, while Sunday Ticket remains available for commercial establishments.
