The National Football League has announced changes to the traditional schedule for Wild Card Weekend, January 15-17, 2022.
For the first time, the league will add a “Monday Night Football” telecast to the slate of six games on the first weekend of postseason play.
In 2020, the league added a third wild-card team for each conference, with three wild-card games played on Saturday and three more on the following day.
For the 2021 season, the new schedule will have two games on Saturday, January 15th (3:35 PM and 7:15 PM), with three games on Sunday, January 16th (12:05 PM, 3:40 PM and 7:15 PM), and the 7:15 PM kick on Monday night, January 17th.
Only two teams will receive first-round byes and have that first weekend off, with that reward given to the #1 seeds in both the AFC and NFC.
CBS and NBC will each broadcast two wild-card games, with FOX and ESPN/ABC each getting one. The broadcaster for the Monday night game has not been determined, according to the NFL.
