The Newtown-Harris Tigers traveled to Jamesport on Thursday night, matching up with the Tri-County Mustangs in a girls/boys varsity basketball doubleheader.
In the girls game, Tri-County took down the Lady Tigers in a hard-fought duel, winning 36-33 to improve to 4-2 overall and 1-0 in the HDC Conference.
The boys game saw the Tigers return the favor to the Mustangs, as Andrew Garcia poured in a game-high 27 points in a 60-52 Newtown-Harris victory. NaVontae Rainey added 13 for N-H. For Tri-County, coming up eight points short of their second victory of the season, Jared Johnson had 20 points, with Lance Cook adding 16.
The Grundy R-5 girls and boys were in non-conference action at Green City on Thursday night, with the Gophers making it a rough trip for the visitors from Galt.
In the girls game, Green City romped to a 56-21 victory. The Lady Panthers, noted Head Coach Leetta Fordyce, lacked the offensive punch shown Friday night in a 1-point loss at North Harrison:
The Green City boys downed Grundy R-5 by a score of 72-48. For the Panthers, in the road loss, Caden Gann had 13 points, with Cooper Lewis tallying a matching 13, while Jonathon Stimpson had 10.
The Polo Panthers split “Courtwarming” dates with Winston on Thursday night, with the Lady Panthers taking a hard-fought 38-32 win, while the Polo boys came up short against Class 1 #5 ranked Winston, 40-34.
Stanberry split with Northeast Nodaway last night, with the Lady Bulldogs winning 57-25, but the Stanberry boys coming up short in a 49-45 final score.
The Norborne girls handled Braymer in non-conference action, 57-25.
