The men’s golf team at North Central Missouri College shot rounds of 303, 296, and 310 last week, finishing second out of seven squads in the Brent Tree Invitational in Council Bluffs, Iowa.  The final score of 909 was 45 over par, 34 strokes behind the winning score of 11 over from the hosts from Iowa Western Community College.  At 1 over par over three rounds, NCMC’s Lewis Hopkinson finished in third place individually.  Other Pirate scores were T9th Scott Swayne (+10), T12th Cody Glenn (+12), 26th Lathan Croy (+25) and 37th James Gardner (+36).

“Scott has gotten his game back on track.  He’s starting to work harder off the course in preparation for these types of events.  As he continues to get stronger, his scores will drop.  These courses are so long, especially when they’re wet, you can’t make a living hitting fairway woods into the par 4’s.  He’s scrappy and handy around the greens, so he’s always giving himself chances,” said Sager of Swayne.

The Pirates still have four tournaments left on their fall schedule.  Their next competition will be the Southwestern Community College hosted “War at the Moor” on October 5th.  “We’re heading into a stretch of tough tournaments.  Iowa Western was a really good event for us to use in preparation.  We’re looking forward to the challenge and try to improve our scoring average against really good competition,” concluded Sager.
