The North Central Missouri College Pirates outslugged Wentworth Military Academy on Wednesday afternoon, taking a 13-8 road win in Lexington. The game featured 25 hits, with eight of the extra-base variety, with nine lead changes featured in the topsy-turvy affair.
A strong ninth inning helped the Pirates pull out the victory. Derek Hussey’s RBI single drove home Dennis Pogue to give the Pirates the lead for good. A Cortlen Austin sacrifice fly and two singles helped in giving the Pirates late breathing room. Landon Figg had a spectacular day at the plate for NCMC, with four hits (including three doubles). Andrew Faustlin picked up the pitching win, throwing a shutout inning of relief.
North Central claimed an early 2-0 lead with a two-run double by Figg scoring Hussey and Brendley Martina.
The Pirates head to Crowder College in Neosho, Missouri for a best-of-three sub-region series this weekend. All games will be nine innings, with the first game from Crowder scheduled for 2 PM on Friday. Game 2 will be Saturday at 12 noon. If necessary, a winner-take-all third game would start 30 minutes after the conclusion of Saturday’s Game #2.
