The North Central Missouri College baseball team held sophomore recognition day festivities before Friday afternoon’s Region 16 doubleheader with Jefferson College, but the visitors from Hillsboro spoiled NCMC’s day with a pair of convincing wins at Burleigh Grimes Field in Trenton.
JeffCo held the Pirates offense to just four hits in the opener, a 12-2 NCMC loss. Kylan Easley took the loss for the Pirates, allowing eight runs in 2 2/3 innings, walking four and striking out four. Jefferson never trailed in the game, scoring three runs in the top of the 1st inning and putting things into “cruise control” from there.
NCMC scraped across a run in the bottom of the 2nd inning, with an RBI single by Brendley Martina cutting the lead to 3-1. Any momentum gained was quickly extinguished in the top of the 3rd, with Jefferson scoring five times. A Stephen Vidal RBI single in the third inning brought in the final run of the contest for North Central.
Game 2 was just as difficult on the Pirates, who suffered an 11-0 loss to the Vikings. NCMC starting pitcher Anferney Hoeve was charged with the loss, allowing six runs over three innings of work, walking five batters and striking out seven.
NCMC will play a doubleheader at Wentworth Military Academy (Lexington, MO) on Wednesday afternoon.
