The North Central Missouri College baseball team held sophomore recognition day festivities before Friday afternoon’s Region 16 doubleheader with Jefferson College, but the visitors from Hillsboro spoiled NCMC’s day with a pair of convincing wins at Burleigh Grimes Field in Trenton.
JeffCo held the Pirates offense to just four hits in the opener, a 12-2 NCMC loss. Â Kylan Easley took the loss for the Pirates, allowing eight runs in 2 2/3 innings, walking four and striking out four. Â Jefferson never trailed in the game, scoring three runs in the top of the 1st inning and putting things into “cruise control” from there.
NCMC scraped across a run in the bottom of the 2nd inning, with an RBI single by Brendley Martina cutting the lead to 3-1. Â Any momentum gained was quickly extinguished in the top of the 3rd, with Jefferson scoring five times. Â A Stephen Vidal RBI single in the third inning brought in the final run of the contest for North Central.
Game 2 was just as difficult on the Pirates, who suffered an 11-0 loss to the Vikings. Â NCMC starting pitcher Anferney Hoeve was charged with the loss, allowing six runs over three innings of work, walking five batters and striking out seven.
NCMC will play a doubleheader at Wentworth Military Academy (Lexington, MO) on Wednesday afternoon.
