NCMC baseball commenced Region 16 play by securing victories in 2 out of 3 games against the Moberly Area CC Greyhounds last weekend (Friday, March 22nd and Saturday, March 23rd). With these results, the Pirates’ overall record stands at 14-14, with a 2-1 record in region play. A scheduled game on Tuesday against St. Charles CC in Moberly, MO, was postponed due to the cold weather conditions.

On Friday, NCMC suffered an 8-5 loss in cold conditions at Burleigh Grimes Field. Pirate pitching struggled, issuing 9 walks and hitting 5 batters, contributing to their defeat. Sophomore Kevin Toala took the loss, surrendering 6 runs (3 earned) over 4 innings of work. NCMC’s offense was led by catcher Justin Dameron, who went 3-4 with a run scored.

Saturday showcased an improved performance from the Pirates, particularly on the mound. Victories were secured with final scores of 5-0 and 12-2. Starters Allan Martinez (7 IP, 0 runs, 10 K’s) and Eric Torrero (5 IP, 2 runs, 4 K’s) each notched complete game victories. Offensively, Jordi Ventura excelled at the plate, going 4-7 with a home run and 5 RBIs. Julio Guerrero contributed with a pair of hits and scored 3 runs.
