Lathrop won the Trenton wrestling quad on Thursday night by capturing all three of its duals. Marceline was the runner-up at 2-1, Trenton had one victory against two losses. Plattsburg, which was open in six weight classes, lost all three of its duals.
Trenton opened with a 57-21 victory over Plattsburg, and then fell to Lathrop 55-21, and lost to Marceline 53-24.
The other scores were Lathrop edging Marceline 37-32, Lathrop beating rival Plattsburg 54-16, and Marceline downing Plattsburg 60-18.
MissouriWrestling.com ranked Marceline 8th and Lathrop 9th in the latest statewide Class 1 team standings.
Trenton’s top performances included Mason Owen going 3-0 at 220 pounds with a pin, a 4-2 decision, and a forfeit victory. Lucas Clark was 3-0 at 160 with a pin, a 4-2 overtime decision, and a forfeit victory. Mark Trump was 2-1 and 182 pounds. Trump’s two victories were by pin.
One of Trenton’s top wrestlers, junior Jadan Whitney at 195 pounds, suffered what was believed to a “high ankle sprain” in Trenton’s first dual. Whitney fought through pain to complete the first match, falling by 9-5 decision, but was unable to continue over the final two duals. Whitney’s status for this weekend’s tournament at Missouri Valley College in Marshall was expected to be “better known” by Friday morning. The status of Noah Lewis for this weekend also was expected to be better known this morning, after he banged his head in competition Thursday night.
