The Clarinda A’s and Chillicothe Mudcats, following a Sunday night rainout of their scheduled game in Iowa, each traveled to Chillicothe on Monday night for a MINK League contest at Chuck Haney Field. Clarinda started fast and held off the Mudcats late for a 7-5 victory, dropping Chillicothe’s early season record to 1-4.
Paxton Terveen’s RBI single gave the A’s the lead in the first inning, with that advantage expanding to 4-0 by the middle of the third inning. The Mudcats rally began in the fourth inning, as Jackson Lindquist smacked an RBI single to get the home team on the board, with two more tallies in the following inning drawing the “Fish” to within 4-3.
Clarinda counterpunched in the top of the sixth inning, with a pair of runs giving the A’s a 6-3 bulge. By the eighth, Clarinda’s lead was 7-3, and while Chillicothe cut the lead in half in the bottom of the 8th, nothing crossed the plate in the ninth, as Clarinda grabbed the win.
Chillicothe will play in doubleheader action (Tuesday night) at Nevada, with first pitch against the Griffons set for 5 o’clock.
