The University of Missouri football team is now under two weeks and counting until opening the 10-game, all-SEC 2020 season with a home date against #3 Alabama on Saturday, September 26th. The Tigers, on Saturday, held the program’s third scrimmage of fall camp, with coach Eliah Drinkwitz telling reporters afterwards that the defense looked impressive, forcing three turnovers, including a scrimmage-ending interception by safety Martez Manuel. Noting an increased level of defensive line pressure on the Mizzou quarterbacks, Drinkwitz pointed out multiple sacks from Darius Robinson and Tre Williams.
The Missouri program now is reporting seven positive cases of COVID-19, an increase of three from the previous report last Tuesday. Fourteen players remain unavailable for the Tigers as they continue recovery from the positive cases of the virus. Drinkwitz did confirm that the three latest positives would not be available to play against Alabama.
A second Tiger announced his intentions to transfer, with running back Nick Collins joining quarterback Taylor Powell on that list. Powell announced on Friday he is leaving Mizzou, entering the transfer portal as graduate transfer. Powell’s departure leaves four quarterbacks battling for the starting job against the Crimson Tide, in redshirt junior Shawn Robinson, redshirt freshman Connor Bazelak, freshman Brady Cook, and redshirt sophomore Jack Samsel. Of the four, Robinson has the most experience at the position, transferring from TCU in 2019 after playing in portions of two seasons with the Horned Frogs of the Big 12 Conference.
