The Missouri State High School Activities Association Board of Directors has approved the use of a 35-second shot clock in qualified regular season varsity basketball tournaments and shootout-style events, effective immediately.

The shot clock can be only used in events involving MSHSAA members schools, with prior approval from the association.  This decision comes after requests from schools and coaches in the past several years.

“We’re providing the opportunity for shot clock use in certain events, while maintaining our approval process,” said Doug Fessler, MSHSAA Assistant Executive Director.  “This also allows tournaments with out-of-state schools to use shot clocks, aligning with their standard practices.”

The recommendation was made by the MSHSAA Basketball Advisory Committee, comprising representatives from member schools.

The shot clock will not be utilized in MSHSAA postseason basketball games, including the 2025 Show-Me Showdown at Mizzou Arena in Columbia.
