With hopes of a fourth consecutive Grand River Conference championship hanging by a thread after last week’s home loss to Milan, the Trenton Lady Bulldogs are starting to build momentum towards postseason play, with junior forward Maci Moore dominating the paint on Tuesday night, scoring 29 points, in a 54-26 win for THS over the visiting Putnam County Lady Midgets, in GRC doubleheader action broadcast on Hot Country Z 101.7.

Moore scored 28 of her points on 14 made shots, while going 1 of 2 from the free throw line.  Including Saturday’s school-record breaking 41 point game in a win over Notre Dame de Sion, Moore has scored 98 points over the past three games for Trenton (12-7, 5-1).  Lexi Whitaker had eight points and Teya Cooksey six for the Lady Bulldogs.  Putnam County (7-14, 2-4) struggled to get good offensive looks against Trenton’s quick and stifling defense, with Claire Tipton leading the Unionville side with 7 points.  Carson Sporleder matched Tipton with seven.

The boys game saw Putnam County continue its conference trend of winning on the road and losing at home, with the Midgets riding a balanced scoring effort and a game-defining 14-0 run early in the second quarter to a 70-50 win over Trenton, dropping the Bulldogs to 3-15 overall, and 0-6 in GRC play.  Hayden Halley led PC with 15 points, with Landon Wood scoring 13, Marcus Furnish 12, and Zach Heidenwith 11 points.  Putnam County, in conference play, has road wins at Polo, South Harrison, and Trenton, with Gallatin, Milan, and Princeton all winning in Unionville.  Trenton was led by Jaren Whitney with 12 points, while Gavin Roeder added 11.

Putnam County travels to Maysville on Friday night to tangle with the Wolverines, with Trenton at Stanberry on Friday night.  Both doubleheaders tip at 6 o’clock.
