NASCAR, on Monday morning, announced a name change for the top series in the sport, with the Sprint Cup becoming the “Monster Energy” NASCAR Cup in 2017.

The new name comes with a re-brand of the NASCAR logo, something said to be in the works since the spring.  The bar mark that had been used by NASCAR had been with the company since 1976.  The new logo is said to “pay tribute to the storied history of NASCAR”, and “incorporate elements of all four previous marks since the company’s inaugural season of 1948”.
