The University of Missouri is losing freshman defensive tackle Mekhi Wingo to the transfer portal, after a season that saw the St. Louis native earn All-SEC freshman team honors. Wingo informed the St. Louis Post-Dispatch of his decision on Thursday morning. The DeSmet High School product played in 12 of MU’s 13 games this season, including four starts, finishing his only campaign in Columbia with 27 tackles, one sack, and an interception, returned for a touchdown.
Of those leaving Missouri, five have announced their future plans. Starting quarterback Connor Bazelak has landed at Indiana, defensive end Jatorian Hansford to South Florida, tight end Daniel Parker to Oklahoma, and tight end Messiah Swinson to Arizona State. Defensive back Ish Burdine is headed for TCU.
Elsewhere in the SEC, Texas A&M is losing a quarterback to a divisional rival, with Zach Calzada announcing a transfer to Auburn.
Calzada announced a commitment to the Tigers via Twitter on Thursday, moving on from the Aggies after starting 10 games in the 2021 season, replacing the injured Haynes King early in the campaign. Auburn is looking for a replacement for three-year starter Bo Nix, who has transferred to Oregon.
