The Missouri Tigers will host former conference rival Iowa State on Saturday, January 28, 2022, as part of the 10-game SEC/Big 12 Challenge. The upcoming meeting will be the 237th all-time between the schools, with the Tigers hosting a 150-85 edge. Traveling to Ames earlier this year to play the 23rd-ranked Cyclones, MU lost. The Tigers last victory in the challenge was a 102-98 overtime win over TCU in 2020. In the history of the event, Mizzou is 2-3.
Missouri is entering its first season under Dennis Gates hoping for a similar one-year turnaround to that shown by Iowa State in 2021-2022. Taking over a program with only two wins the year prior, first-year coach T.J. Otzelberger led the Cyclones to the NCAA Tournament’s “Sweet 16” and 22 wins.
The Tigers have continued to announce additions to their 2022-2023 roster in recent days, with former Cleveland State guard Ben Sternberg officially enrolling at Missouri to join the Tiger hoops team, followed by the news that center Mabor Majak, also formerly of Cleveland State, headed for MU.
Former Missouri All-American Phil Pressey, an AP Honorable Mention selection in his senior season in 2013, is returning to his Alma Mater. On the same day he announced his retirement from the professional ranks, Pressey was hired as a graduate assistant under Coach Gates for 2022-2023.
