COLUMBIA, Mo. — Tamar Bates scored 29 points and had five steals, helping Missouri upset No. 1 Kansas 76-67 on Sunday.
Mark Mitchell added 17 points for the Tigers, who earned their first win over the Jayhawks since Feb. 4, 2012. Anthony Robinson II scored 11 points and had five steals, while Josh Gray grabbed 10 rebounds.
Hunter Dickinson led Kansas with 19 points and 14 rebounds but committed seven turnovers.
The Jayhawks have lost two straight road games, including a 76-63 defeat at Creighton on Wednesday.
Missouri opened a 24-point lead with 14:15 remaining but Kansas responded with a 30-8 run over the next 11:55. Bates scored 18 points in the first half, helping the Tigers take a 39-25 lead.
Mitchell’s 3-pointer with 2:03 remaining gave Missouri a 68-63 lead. Gray and Bates then combined for four consecutive points to seal the win.
Kansas committed 22 turnovers, including 14 in the first half. The Jayhawks fell to 5-5 at Mizzou Arena since it opened in 2004.
Missouri improved to 4-5 against Kansas when the Jayhawks are ranked No. 1 in The Associated Press poll.
Kansas hosts North Carolina State on Saturday, while Missouri hosts Long Island.
