Missouri men’s basketball newcomer Connor Vanover will miss the first three games of his final season of eligibility because of his participation in an offseason showcase tournament.
Per a team spokesman, Vanover’s absence is the result of an NCAA ruling.
In April, Vanover played in the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament, a showcase of collegiate players for professional scouts.
After Monday night’s game, Dennis Gates expressed that he felt not all rules were adjusted to accommodate the extended eligibility for athletes who played during the 2020 season.
Vanover will miss the games against Memphis and Southern Illinois-Edwardsville, in addition to him sitting on the sideline for the season opener Monday against Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Vanover’s first game of availability will be Thursday, November 16th, when Mizzou visits Minnesota for a meeting with the Golden Gophers.
