The University of Missouri, less than a week after the firing of former coach Steve Bieser, has hired St. Louis native and University of Memphis head coach Kerrick Jackson as the new leader of the MU baseball program.

In one season at Memphis, Jackson had a record of 29-28, including 10-14 in the American Athletic Conference, the program’s first winning season since 2017.  Prior to Memphis, Jackson coached at Southern University in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC), helping lead the Jaguars to a 47-67 overall record and a berth in the 2019 NCAA Tournament.

Since Missouri’s move into the Southeastern Conference more than a decade ago, the Tiger sports programs have had up-and-down levels of success, but early concerns about the baseball program’s ability to compete against the recruiting rich areas and schools of the “Deep South” have been warranted.  Bieser was let go after a 30-24 season in 2023, including a 10-20 SEC mark, Bieser’s seventh year in Columbia.

Jackson was a Mizzou assistant coach from 2011-2015 under Tim Jamieson.  He is a graduate of Kirkwood High School and played collegiately at St. Louis Community College, Bethune-Cookman, and the University of Nebraska.
