Mizzou baseball has made two significant additions to its roster through the transfer portal under new head coach Kerrick Jackson. Infielder Danny Corona Jr. from Wake Forest and outfielder Jeric Curtis from Texas Tech both announced their transfers to the Tigers via social media.
Corona played 48 games for Wake Forest during the 2023 season, starting in 41 of them. He split his time between the infield and designated hitter positions and was part of the Demon Deacons team that reached the final four in the College World Series, ultimately falling to the eventual champion, LSU. Corona had an impressive season, hitting 13 home runs, driving in 45 runs, and maintaining a .285 batting average. As a high school player, he was ranked among the top 200 prospects and received offers from prestigious programs like Vanderbilt, Stanford, and Tennessee.
Curtis joins Mizzou after completing his true freshman season at Texas Tech. While his playing time was limited, with only 16 at-bats, he recorded three hits and four RBI. Curtis was also highly regarded as a high school prospect, ranking in the top 200 according to Perfect Game’s rankings. He showcased his speed by recording the fastest 30-yard dash time of 3.50 seconds at the MLB Draft Combine in 2022.
Since being hired on June 3, Coach Jackson has been actively recruiting, and the commitments from Corona and Curtis are the first major additions to the Tigers’ roster under his leadership. The team has experienced some departures this offseason, including players transferring to other programs and being selected in the MLB Draft. Jackson has been active on social media, signaling his recruiting efforts, and the commitments from Corona and Curtis signify positive progress in bolstering the team’s roster.
