The University of Missouri football program has named eight student-athletes as captains for the 2022 Tiger football team.  Four of the players play on the offensive side of the line of scrimmage, with the other four defensive players.

Coach Eli Drinkwitz announced captaincy status for quarterback Brady Cook, wide receivers Tauskie Dove and Barrett Banister, offensive lineman Javon Foster, defensive back Martez Manuel, linebacker Chad Bailey, and defensive linemen Isaiah McGuire and Darius Robinson.  Votes were conducted among the players on the Tiger team.

Ja’Marion Wayne was selected as the Mizzou player to wear the coveted #25 in honor of the late Aaron O’Neal.  O’Neal was a linebacker for the Tigers who died during a voluntary workout in 2009.  Like O’Neal, Wayne is a St. Louis native and Parkway West High School.  O’Neal attended Parkway North.  Wayne entered Mizzou as a four-star wide receiver prospect, but has been working at the safety position in fall camp.

Five defensive players and two offensive players from Missouri have been named to the Reese’s Senior Bowl player watch list, with defensive linemen D.J. Coleman, Trajan Jeffcoat, Darius Robinson, and Isaiah McGuire joined by defensive back Martez Manuel, running back Nathaniel Peat and offensive lineman Javon Foster.

In voting among the 14 head coaches in the Southeastern Conference, three Mizzou players received all-conference preseason status, with junior kicker Harrison Mevis named first-team All-SEC, senior offensive lineman Javon Foster a second-teamer, and junior Kris Abrams-Draine a third-teamer.

Missouri opens the season this Thursday night (September 1st) at 7 o’clock, hosting the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs on ESPNU.  Coverage on KTTN FM 92.3 and the Tiger Radio Network begins at 5 o’clock.
