The Missouri Tigers have picked up a commitment from Hutchinson Community College wide receiver Demariyon Houston, the third in the Class of 2023.
Houston, a native of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, began his collegiate career at Nebraska, but failed to find playing time in two years with the Cornhuskers before his transfer to Hutchinson.
Last season, with HCC, Houston, with playing time in six games, had 19 catches amassing 280 yards with three touchdowns.
Houston is Mizzou’s first recruit for 2023 not coming from the high school ranks, as coach Eli Drinkwitz has the verbal commitments of Troy-Buchanan High School pass rusher Jahkai Lang and and Francis Howell (St. Charles, MO) High School tight end Brett Norfleet.
By Sunday afternoon, Mizzou had added a third high school commitment for 2023, as four-star quarterback Gabarri Johnson verballed with the Tigers. Johnson, ranked #14 at quarterback in the Class of 2023 by 247Sports, hails from Tacoma, Washington. Â
In his junior season in 2021, Johnson threw for 2,222 yards with 28 touchdowns and only two interceptions. He chose Missouri over known offers from Arkansas, Arizona State, and Oregon.
A potential for immediate help at the quarterback position at MU disappeared on Sunday, as former Baylor University quarterback Gerry Bohanon announced his future school as the University of South Florida.
Bohanon, the quarterback of the 2021 Big 12 and Sugar Bowl champion Baylor Bears, announced his intentions to transfer on April 27th, and had visited Drinkwitz and the Missouri coaching staff during the weekend of April 30th and May 1st.
