In the cut-throat recruiting trail of college football, the minds of high school players often change, often referred to as a “flip”. Sometimes these flips work against the school, however on Saturday, a “flip” went Missouri’s way, with a prep linebacker from the state of North Carolina changing his early summer verbal commitment from Virginia Tech to the Tigers of Ol’ Mizzou.
Weakside linebacker Xavier Simmons, a 6’3″ 225 pound Class of 2022 product, had verballed to Virginia Tech in June, but took a visit to the Missouri campus in Columbia at about the same time. Simmons is going into his senior season at Northwest Guilford High School in Greensboro.
Over the weekend, coach Eliah Drinkwitz received the commitment of Simmons, considered a 4-star recruit by 247Sports and a 3-star by Rivals. In addition to Missouri and Virginia Tech, Simmons had offers from in-state schools North Carolina and North Carolina State, in addition to Oklahoma and South Carolina.
