Missouri men’s basketball assistant coach David “Dickey” Nutt is transitioning to an off-court role for the 2024-25 season as he continues cancer treatment.

Nutt now serves as the team’s assistant to the head coach and senior adviser. PowerMizzou initially reported the change in job title.

According to the spokesperson, Nutt’s new role closely mirrors his previous assistant position, encompassing scouting, analytics, and film breakdown. The transition is solely due to health reasons and does not correlate with the team’s performance this season.

Nutt, who is battling sarcoma, a rare form of cancerous tumor, announced his diagnosis to college basketball fans on Feb. 1 via X, formerly known as Twitter.

Prior to the SEC Tournament on March 11, head coach Dennis Gates disclosed that Nutt had completed his second, and most challenging, round of chemotherapy yet.

Despite his health battle, Nutt maintains communication with the team’s staff and players, and remains actively engaged in offseason discussions and strategy meetings.

With Nutt’s move, Missouri has created an opening for a new assistant coach. The job posting was initially made on March 15 and is scheduled to close on April 13.
