The Trenton Middle School Bulldogs started strong, but gave up five consecutive touchdowns, and 40 straight points, to end Monday night’s game, as the Milan Wildcats beat TMS by a score of 48-24 at C.F. Russell Stadium.
A Sam Gibson touchdown run of seven yards, combined with a two-point pass from Coleman Griffin to Dylan Spencer, gave Trenton the 8-0 lead after the first quarter, with the Bulldogs doubling the advantage in the second quarter on a 75 yard touchdown run by Jarek Habelitz, and a two-point conversion scamper by Griffin. However, the Wildcats cut into the halftime lead, making it 16-8 Bulldogs, with a two-yard run and successful conversion getting Milan on the board.
Sam Gibson had a touchdown run and two-point run for Trenton early in the third quarter, but that 24-8 lead represented the Bulldogs “high water mark” in the game. By the end of the quarter, a 35 yard touchdown run and an 18-yard scoring run, combined with successful PAT’s, had tied the game at 24.
The ‘Cats dominated the final quarter, scoring the game-winning points on a 52 yard fumble return for a touchdown, and adding a 15 and a 10 yard touchdown run by the end of the night for insurance.
For TMS, Habelitz had 190 yards rushing, with Gibson adding 38. Ian Elbert led the Bulldog defense with 10 tackles.
