In the first-ever SEC/ACC women’s basketball challenge on Thursday, November 30th, the University of Missouri Tigers will be playing against the University of Virginia Cavaliers in Charlottesville, Virginia, with tip-time at 4 o’clock on an ESPN network to be determined. Cady Pauley, a former All-State selection from Milan High School, will be playing for UVA as a sophomore.
Last season, the Virginia Cavaliers had a 15-15 overall record and a 4-14 record against ACC opponents. They are led by head coach Amaka Agugua-Hamilton, who will be entering her second season with the team. Camryn Taylor, a fifth-year forward, was their leading scorer with 13.9 points and 6.2 rebounds per game. They also added Kymora Johnson, a highly ranked recruit, during the offseason.
In addition to this matchup, the SEC also announced Missouri’s conference opponents for the 2024 league year. Missouri will have a 16-game conference slate, playing teams like Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Texas A&M, Vanderbilt, and conference rival Arkansas at Mizzou Arena. On the road, Missouri will face Florida, Kentucky, Mississippi State, Tennessee, Arkansas, South Carolina, Vanderbilt, and defending national champion LSU.
The schedule consists of a single round-robin of home and away games (10 games), along with two permanent opponents (two games each) and two rotating opponents (one home and one away game each). Missouri’s permanent opponent is Arkansas, and their rotating opponents are South Carolina and Vanderbilt.
The upcoming season will be the 15th year of the 16-game schedule for women’s basketball in the SEC, with 14 teams participating. The 2024 SEC Women’s Basketball Tournament is scheduled to be held from March 6th to March 10th at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville, S.C.
Missouri’s team is highlighted by returning players Hayley Frank and Ashton Judd. Frank led the Tigers with 15.4 points per game last season and currently ranks ninth on the program’s all-time scoring leaderboard. Judd had an impressive freshman season, earning All-SEC Freshman team honors and shooting a program freshman-record 44.9 percent from beyond the arc.
During the offseason, Missouri added eight players, including three freshmen and five transfers. Grace Slaughter, the No. 53 ranked recruit in the 2023 class, is expected to make an impact in her first year of college basketball.
