The Milan Lady Wildcats routed Sullivan County rival Newtown-Harris 64-19 on Tuesday night, sending Nathan Simler’s squad into the semifinal round, and a Thursday night meeting with the Linn County Lady Mustangs (8 PM / KTTN FM 92.3).
Both Linn County teams claimed quarterfinal wins on Tuesday night, with the Lady Mustangs beating Brashear 52-34, while boys squad from Purdin took a 57-28 win over Tri-County Conference rival Brashear. The Linn County boys will play #1 seed Milan in the semifinal round, Thursday night at 6:30 on KTTN FM 92.3.
On Wednesday night from Milan High School, the #1 seed Green City Lady Gophers stamped their ticket for the championship game with a 62-45 win over Grundy County. Matana Munday had 20 points and Jandie Peterson 11 for the Lady Panthers, who fall into Friday night’s third place game.
The Novinger boys won a thriller against rival Green City, 53-51, sending the Wildcats into another Milan Tournament title game appearance, while dropping the Gophers into the third place game.
In a boys consolation semifinal, the Grundy R-5 Panthers defeated the Newtown-Harris Tigers, 44-41, pushing Steve Wells’ Galt team into a consolation final on Friday night against the Brashear Tigers. Grundy R-5 had Jon Stimpson with 14 points, Bryson Gann with 13, and Wayne Baxter with 11. Newtown-Harris ends the Milan Tournament at 0-2, with losses to Novinger and Grundy County.
Thursday night at Milan opens with a girls consolation semifinal, as Newtown-Harris duels with Brashear at 5 o’clock.
