Eddie Gonzalez led the Milan Wildcats with 20 points on Saturday night, in a dominating 64-42 victory over Scotland County that won the 2017 Novinger Tournament championship for the Wildcats, who used their depth and up-tempo style to overwhelm and eventually take down the defending Novinger champions from Memphis.

Milan led 16-9 after the first quarter, extended the lead to 10 points by halftime, and 13 after three quarters.  Scotland County was not able to significantly threaten the Wildcats advantage late, as Andrea Dabney’s team cruised to the title, moving to 4-0 on the young season.

Sophomore small forward Hunter Shaw, in action broadcast on KTTN FM 92.3, continued his strong early season play for Milan, scoring 10 points.  Will Frohm paced Scotland County with 14 points.  The Wildcats and Lady Wildcats of Milan will continue to play former Tri-Rivers Conference rivals this week, with a trip to Memphis on Tuesday night for games against Scotland County followed by the home opener, with Milan’s teams hosting Schuyler County on Friday night.

In the girls final from Novinger, the #2 seeded Green City Lady Gophers beat Scotland County by a score of 52-43.  The Lady Gophers will host HDC Conference opponents this week, with Mercer visiting on Tuesday night, and Grundy County R-V on Thursday night.

The LaPlata Bulldogs won the boys third place hardware from Novinger High School, beating Green City on Saturday afternoon, 59-48.
