The Milan Wildcats rallied from a 7-0 halftime deficit with 16 unanswered second-half points, including a 33 yard touchdown catch and a 55 interception return by Hunter Shaw, beating the Gallatin Bulldogs 16-7 on Friday night from Cal Hubbard Field.

The result from the game, broadcast on tape-delay Saturday morning on Hot Country Z 101.7, leaves Milan in the drivers seat in the race for the Grand River Conference’s 11-man title.  With two weeks left in the regular season, Milan sits at 7-0, including a perfect 5-0 in the GRC.  Meanwhile, Gallatin, at 5-2 overall and 4-1 in the GRC, drops into a three-way tie for second place in the conference standings, one game behind Milan.  All four top squads play one another this week, with Princeton playing at Gallatin at 7 o’clock, with the winner hoping for a South Harrison road win that would create a three-way tie for first place.  South Harrison, in action to be heard on KTTN FM 92.3, will play at Milan on Friday, with a Wildcat win assuring Milan a share of the conference title.

Gallatin’s defense was stout in the road effort at the Pit, holding Wildcat senior fullback Jamuel Pagan to 64 yards on 27 carries, while sophomore halfback Dominic Dabney had nine carries for 32 yards.

On a field in Milan dampened by the late week rainfall, Wildcat Coach John Dabney described the battle between the Bulldogs and Milan as one that had superb effort from both sidelines:

The Princeton Tigers beat a quickly improving Maysville Wolverine squad at Eddie Allen Field on Friday night, 16-0, leaning on their defense to beat a Maysville side that continually frustrated the Tigers offense and Coach Thomas Hotmer:

South Harrison stayed a game back of Milan, and gave themselves a chance to play for a potential GRC title on Friday night at Milan, beating Trenton 38-20.  In a game played in Bethany and heard on Hot Country Z 101.7, South Harrison rallied from a 14-all halftime tie to score 24 unanswered points in the third and fourth quarters, improving to 5-2 overall and 4-1 in the GRC, dropping Trenton to 1-6 overall and 1-4 in conference play.

Linthacum had touchdown runs of three and 11 yards for South Harrison, with Cody Yslas adding a two-yard touchdown plunge in the final quarter.  The Bulldogs took the lead for good with a 75 yard touchdown strike from Keller to Sunderman midway through the third quarter.  Down 14-0 midway through the second quarter, Trenton scored back-to-back touchdowns, with Sam Schilling hitting Jaren Whitney on a 61-yard slant pattern, while Carson Radcliff scored on a two-yard plunge in the final minute of the second quarter.  However, the visitors, much like the loss to Milan High School the week before, failed to keep momentum going into the second half.  Trenton had the football first in the third quarter, but fumbled the ball immediately to South Harrison, stunting any potential surge Trenton had coming out of the locker room.  Mark Trump had a two-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter, while Weller had a one-yard touchdown run midway through the second quarter, ending a drive of 99 yards.  That drive for the “Purple Side” started after Trenton, trailing 6-0, fumbled the football away at the South Harrison 1 yard line, losing a chance to tie the game and continuing the Bulldogs season-long trend of fumbling chances away by mishandling the football in the offensive backfield.
