The Milan Wildcats swept the Green City Gophers on Saturday night, claiming the Milan Tournament titles in action broadcast on KTTN FM 92.3. In the boys championship game, Chekh Niasse paced a balanced Wildcat attack with 15 points, as MHS beat its in-county archrival 59-53, handing the Gophers their second loss of the season.
Dominic Dabney had 13 points, Michael Pipes 11, and Axel Pagan 10 points for Milan, while Green City had 14 points from Laydon Fields, 12 from Aaron Peavler, and 10 points each from Asher Buggs and Chris Barto. Milan’s Dabney was named the tournament MVP.
In the girls championship game, Cady Pauley finished off an MVP week with a game-high 44 points, as Milan moved to 9-1 with a 73-51 victory. Jordyn Gray had 10 points for the Lady ‘Cats. Celeste Athon had 22 points and Tanner Tipton 14 for the Lady Gophers.
The boys third place game, also broadcast on KTTN, went to the Grundy R-V Panthers, 63-61 over Marceline. Corbin Axtell had 22 points, Cooper Lewis 18, and Caden Gann 15 for Grundy County, while Marceline had 19 points from Will Heller, 11 from Adain Daller, and 10 points from both Wyatt Molloy and Zach Niemeier.
Marceline won the girls third place game against Brashear 51-33, with the Putnam County girls and boys taking consolation semifinal wins, both by 57-45 scores. The Lady Midgets beat Novinger, with the PC boys defeating Brashear.
At the Lawson Tournament, the Gallatin Bulldogs took the title on Saturday afternoon with a 65-56 victory over Richmond, with sophomore Isaac Bird named Tournament MVP. Payton Feiden of GHS earned all-tournament honors. The Chillicothe Lady Hornets cruised to victory over North Platte in the girls title tilt, 64-27.
The Chillicothe boys and Lawson girls won third place games, with the Hornets downing West Platte, 60-53, while the Lady Cards beat Penney, 41-29.
The Trenton Bulldogs split consolation finals at Lawson, with the Lady Bulldogs beating West Platte 34-24. The THS boys lost to Lawson 52-19.
