The Milan Lady Wildcats showed the combination of clutch hitting and veteran savvy in rallying twice for victories, part of a three-game sweep in a jamboree played Monday afternoon at Legion Field.
In their opener against the new GRC rival Gallatin Lady Bulldogs, Gallatin led 2-0 until Milan rallied with its back to the wall in the 3rd. A double by Shelby May tied the contest, and Kenna Michael scored via a Bulldog error to win the game. The winning pitcher was Erin Sayre.
In Game #2, Milan rallied again, this time against former conference foe Scotland County. Down 2-1, the Lady ‘Cats got a go-ahead hit from Shelby May, moments after Michael tied the contest with a line drive down the line. Milan won 4-2, as Maddie Schoonover added a double for one of the scrimmage’s biggest hits. Kenna Michael earned the pitching victory.
Milan’s offense exploded for nine runs in Game #3, a 9-3 win over Princeton. Every Lady Wildcat to bat in the scrimmage reached base, while Maddie Schoonover got the victory.
Head Coach Nathan Dodson reported to KTTN/KGOZ that his Lady Wildcats “had a solid performance and should be able to gain some great confidence moving forward, as we fine tune things for next week”.
The Lady ‘Cats open the season in a first ever GRC softball game against long-time rival Putnam County. The game, on Tuesday, August 23rd, will have a 5:30 start time.
