The Grand River Conference leaders from Milan High School have parlayed a perfect 7-0 to the season into a top-10 ranking in the latest high school football from the Missouri Sportswriters and Broadcasters Association.  In the poll released prior to Week #8 of the season, Milan has moved from the only “receiving votes” category member in Class 1, to the #10 spot, overtaking Penney High School of Hamilton, despite a three-game winning streak by the Hornets.

Milan has 16 points in the weekly poll, with Penney just outside the top 10, with 14 points.   The Adrian Blackhawks are 12th this week, with 10 points.  The Tigers from Marceline High School, with a 6-1 mark, hold steady at #5, with East Buchanan, despite a 50 point loss at Class 2 Lawson last Friday, still receiving one first place vote from the media panel, despite dropping to fourth.  Fayette is #3, with Westran (receiving four first place votes) at #2.  The new #1 ranked team in the state is Hayti, with seven first place votes and 11 points.

The top five in Class 2 remain unchanged, with Lamar receiving all 12 first-place tallies to remain #1, followed by Blair Oaks, Lathrop, Lutheran North, and Lawson.  Clark County holds at #6, with Macon, coming off a 25-14 win at Brookfield, up two spots to #8, while Palmyra drops a spot to #9.  Lexington, with 10 votes, is just outside the top 10 at #11.

In Class 3, the top five remains unchanged, with Odessa at #1 and Trinity #2.  The two schools split the first-place votes 6-6, with Odessa’s 112 total points one more than the 111 of Trinity.  Cardinal Ritter is third, Maryville fourth, and Cassville fifth.  Maryville’s Week 8 opponent, archrival Savannah, is receiving two points, tied with Moberly at the 12th position in this week’s poll.
