Dre Morehead scored 25 points on Tuesday night, leading the Milan Wildcats to a season-opening boys basketball victory, 92-50 at Novinger. Ryan Dabney added 15 points, Hunter Shaw 14, and Jeremy Bennett 10 for Milan, the top seed in next week’s Tri-Rivers Classic at Schuyler County.
Milan’s boys, in the Schuyler County Middle School gym on Monday night at 6 o’clock, will battle the Schuyler County Rams. In the Schuyler County High School gymnasium, at 7:30 on Monday night, the 5th-seeded Milan Lady Wildcats challenge #4 seed Knox County.
Milan’s girls, in the Lady Wildcat coaching debut of Ched Hurley, rode a 30 point night from sophomore Cady Pauley to a 69-39 win at Novinger. Jordyn Gray had 16 points and Tahli Gray 13 for Milan.
Other quarterfinal games on Monday night from the Tri-Rivers Classic will be the #1 seed Scotland County Lady Tigers taking on North Shelby at 6 o’clock in the high school gym, and the #4 seed Putnam County boys battling North Shelby at 7:30 in the middle school gymnasium.
The Tri-Rivers Classic continues Tuesday with the Clark County girls playing Putnam County in the 2/7 matchup at 6 o’clock, followed by the Brookfield Lady ‘Dogs, seeded third, taking on Schuyler County, with both games in the high school gymnasium. In the middle school gym on Tuesday night, the Knox County boys challenge Brookfield at 6 o’clock, followed by the Clark County boys battling Scotland County at 7:30.
Putnam County opened its basketball season on Tuesday night with a pair of losses to Brookfield. The Bulldog boys took down the Midgets 62-48, with Landon Wood scoring 14 and Hayden Halley 12 points for PC. The Brookfield girls cruised to a 66-39 win. The Lady Midgets were paced by 12 points from Claire Tipton and 10 from Jade Durfey.
