The MIAA, in response to the NCAA’s requirements for both maximum and minimum allowable contests and dates for the 2020 football season, has announced 10-game schedules for all league institutions, with every game played among the MIAA’s rival schools. In addition to the 10 game schedules, the MIAA voted to eliminate Thursday night games for this coming season.
The Northwest Missouri State Bearcats will open the 2020 campaign at Nebraska-Kearney on September 12th, with the rival Missouri Western Griffons at Northeastern State that day. The home openers for the schools will be, for Northwest, September 19th against Fort Hays State, and for Western, September 19th against Central Oklahoma.
The Bearcats welcome to the Maryville campus Pittsburg State on October 3rd, Northeastern State for the October 10th homecoming game, Missouri Southern on Halloween, and Lincoln University on November 14th.
The annual grudge match between Northwest Missouri State and Missouri Western will be played in St. Joseph on November 7th, with other opponents heading to Spratt Stadium being Central Oklahoma on September 19th, Fort Hays State the following week, Missouri Southern on October 10th, and Washburn on October 24th.
In other local college football news, the Heart of America Conference, a league that includes Central Methodist (Fayette, MO), Missouri Valley (Marshall, MO), and Graceland (Lamoni, IA), has announce a nine-game football schedule for 2020. Divisional games in the league will not be affected by the change, moving from an original 11 game slate.
