Major League Baseball (MLB) has announced that the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies will play a two-game series in London next season, continuing MLB’s efforts to bring the game to international audiences. The series is scheduled to take place on June 8-9 at London Stadium.
MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred confirmed the news, expressing the league’s desire to showcase the best of baseball to fans in London. The previous MLB series held in London in 2019 featured the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox, two long-standing rivals. Manfred emphasized the strategic importance of London for MLB and the league’s commitment to presenting high-quality baseball in special locations.
While the Mets-Phillies series had been previously reported, the official announcement was made on the eve of the Cardinals-Cubs series, adding to the anticipation around the London games.
In addition to the London series, there are discussions about bringing MLB to Paris in 2025. The New York Yankees have expressed interest in playing a game in the French capital. While MLB has not yet confirmed the Paris game, it was included as part of last year’s collective bargaining agreement with the players’ association. Manfred stated that planning for the Paris game is underway but no formal announcement has been made.
The prospect of playing in Paris has generated excitement among players and managers. Texas Rangers manager Bruce Bochy, who has French roots, expressed his enthusiasm for the idea and stated that he would love to manage a game in Paris.
These international series are part of MLB’s ongoing efforts to expand the global reach of baseball and provide fans around the world with the opportunity to experience the sport at its highest level.
