The Mercer Lady Cardinals have an intriguing mix of returning talent and spots open for improvement, as the 2020 softball season begins for returning head coach Melissa Hill.
While its fair to say that Mercer looks to be somewhere in a grouping of teams looking to improve and try to achieve the level of the dominant North Harrison program in the HDC Conference, coach Hill would be first to point out there is a difference between hoping for improvement, and showing it on the field.
A postponement by COVID-19 hit East Harrison on Monday has Mercer’s girls in a holding pattern, using practice sessions to prepare for a trip to Winston to open conference, and regular season play, on Tuesday, September 8th. Although the wait for Mercer is understandable, the Lady Cardinals, prior to the regular season, did get in a late August jamboree event to tune up their game.Â
With the Lady Cardinals becoming increasingly anxious to play somebody in a different uniform, KTTN Sports spoke with Coach Hill on Monday at 3:50 for the first coaches show of the 2020 season for Mercer on 92.3 FM.

Due to next Monday’s Labor Day holiday, the Mercer (and Grundy R-5) interviews will be moved to Wednesday evening, between 6:00 and 6:30, on 92.3 FM KTTN. They will return to their regular 3:30-4:00 PM time slot on Monday, September 14th.
