The top-seeded Mercer Lady Cardinals won for the third game in a row, while Princeton knocked off conference rival Putnam County, part of girls quarterfinal games played Monday night at the South Harrison Invitational Tournament in Bethany.
The Mercer offensive machine had little difficulty with Maysville, winning 85-17, while the Princeton Lady Tigers were able to grab a 59-48 victory against the Lady Midgets, moving the two Mercer County rivals into a Wednesday night (7:30) semifinal from Bethany, to be broadcast on KTTN FM 92.3 and audio streamed on KTTNSports.com.
Maysville and Putnam County drop to the consolation side of the girls bracket, for an all GRC semifinal on Wednesday afternoon at 4:30.
On the bottom half of the girls bracket, three Harrison County teams joined Northeast Nodaway in quarterfinal action on Monday night, with the #2 seed South Harrison Lady Bulldogs and #3 seed North Harrison Lady Shamrocks taking wins. South Harrison held off upset-seeking Northeast Nodaway in a 49-39 final score, while the Lady Shamrocks beat HDC Conference rival East Harrison 56-40.
For the second time this season, North Harrison and South Harrison will meet in Bethany, with the rematch set for 9 o’clock on Wednesday night. East Harrison will duel against Northeast Nodaway in a girls consolation semifinal at 6 o’clock.
The boy’s quarterfinals will be played at SHHS in Bethany tonight (Tuesday night), with the top-seeded Mercer Cardinals battling North Harrison at 4:30, followed by the 4 vs 5 seed matchup between Maysville and Princeton at 6 o’clock. The South Harrison Bulldogs entertain Northeast Nodaway at 7:30, followed by high-scoring senior forward Calvin Heidenwith leading the Putnam County Midgets into a game opposite East Harrison at 9 o’clock.
