The Mercer Lady Cardinals softball team is aiming to improve by each practice and each game, with graduation losses from last spring pushing the youth movement in the Mercer program into full gear this fall. As with the challenges often brought by youth, Mercer is battling staying consistent on the diamond heading into the home stretch of the season.
On Thursday night, the Lady Cardinals ran into a rejuvenated Tri-County squad playing some of their best softball in recent years, and lost 22-12 in Jamesport. Two days later in the HDC Conference Tournament, Mercer went 1-2, finishing fourth after a loss to Grundy County in the third place game in Bethany.
The upcoming schedule for the Mercer girls has a road game with Grundy County on Thursday night, with a daunting challenge looming at North Harrison on Tuesday, September 19th.
