The Mercer Lady Cardinals and North Harrison Lady Shamrocks have one more left in their season series, with the upcoming Class 1, District 14 semifinal to be the most important yet.
Mercer beat Albany on Monday night in district quarterfinal action, 43-22, while North Harrison moved ahead with a 69-18 win over Pattonsburg. On the bottom half of the bracket, East Harrison beat Newtown-Harris 48-34, with Worth County ending Gilman City’s season 63-26, sending the Lady Tigers into a semifinal duel with the Lady Bobcats.
Down the road from Albany in King City, Class 1, District 15 boys quarterfinals were played on Monday night, with the #1 ranked team in the state, the North Andrew Cardinals, hammering Osborn 93-7. The Cardinals next opponent will be the host King City Wildkats, after King City disposed of DeKalb in the quarterfinal round, 62-30. Â
The #2 seeded St. Joseph Christian Lions found the win column in Monday’s quarterfinal, 66-38 over Union Star, sending the Lions into a semifinal with South Holt, a 65-32 winner over Stewartsville.
At Northeast Nodaway High School in Ravenwood, District 16 girls games were played on Monday night, with the top-seeded Jefferson Lady Eagles victorious over West Nodaway, 42-10, sending JHS to the semifinals against Rock Port, a 43-33 victor over North Nodaway.
The Mound City Panthers doubled up Nodaway-Holt 66-33, while the South Nodaway boys won a defensive struggle against Northeast Nodaway 38-25, moving the Panthers and Longhorns into a semifinal meeting.
Tonight’s action from Albany, King City, and Ravenwood has been postponed due to icy weather conditions.
The girls semifinals at Class 1, District 11 in Purdin, scheduled for tonight, have been postponed due to ice. The new schedule now has all FOUR semifinals being played on Wednesday night at Linn County High School.
On Wednesday, the Green City girls take on Atlanta at 4:30, followed by the Grundy R-5 girls against Brashear at 5:45. The boys semifinals will follow, with the Green City Gophers taking on the Grundy R-5 Panthers at 7 o’clock, followed by the Novinger Wildcats against the Linn County Mustangs at 8:15. Both Green City teams have the #1 seeds for the District 11 tournaments.
Changes in the schedule have also been announced for the Class 1, District 12 tournament at Tina-Avalon and the Class 1, District 13 tournament at Braymer. With icy conditions postponing tonight’s (Tuesday night’s) action from Tina-Avalon, the girls semifinals have been moved to Wednesday night. At 5:45 PM on Wednesday, the top-seeded Norborne Lady Pirates playing Keytesville, with that game preceded, at 4:30, by the #2 seed Hale Lady Cardinals taking on Tina-Avalon. The boys semifinals will be played later in the evening on Wednesday, as the #1 seed from Meadville goes against Northwestern at 7 o’clock, while the #2 seed from Brunswick battles Slater at 8:15.
In the Class 1, District 13 tournament at Braymer High School, all four semifinals are now slated to be played on Wednesday night, with the evening opening at 4:30 with the top-seeded Southwest Livingston girls battling Braymer. At 5:45, the top-seeded Winston boys take on Hardin-Central. At 7 o’clock, the Orrick Lady Bearcats take on Hardin-Central, with the nightcap scheduled for a tip of 8:15, as the Southwest Livingston boys take on the host Braymer Bobcats.
