The Trenton Lady Bulldogs stumbled in their hopes of gaining pre-district momentum, falling behind rival Chillicothe in the early innings, and lacking a key base hit to ignite their own offense in an 11-1, five inning loss to the Lady Hornets on Monday night.

The Trenton-Chillicothe game, broadcast on KTTN FM 92.3, saw Chillicothe freshman Hope Donoho take a 3-2 pitch and drive it over the left field fence in the first inning, giving the visitors a quick 1-0 lead.  Trenton had a bases loaded, one out opportunity in the bottom of the first, but failed to get a run across.

With one out in the top of the 2nd inning, the Lady Hornet offense came alive again, with eight straight batters reaching base, with five base hits and three base on balls.  By the time the smoke had cleared, Chillicothe had a 7-0 lead.  Against relief pitcher Emma Roberts, Chillicothe added four more runs in the top of the 3rd inning, although only one of the runs given up by the Trenton senior were earned.

Trenton left eight runners on base over the first four innings, with the bases loaded opportunity disappearing in the first inning.  Trenton left runners on second and third in the 2nd inning, and despite scoring a run on a bases loaded walk to Mirena King in the fourth inning, THS left the bases loaded.  Chillicothe’s advantage in the hitting department was eight hits to six, and both teams committed a pair of errors.

Trenton finishes the regular season at 12-9, and will now turn the page to prepare for a district quarterfinal game against Hamilton on Thursday night (7:00) from THS.  Weather permitting, the game will be broadcast on KGOZ FM 101.7.  Chillicothe has a contest with two-time defending Class 2 champion Marceline before starting district play in St. Joseph as a #1 seed on Saturday.
