Meadville remains unbeaten, advancing to state with 40-23 victory

The Meadville Lady Eagles pressure defense and timely shooting combined for a 40-23 Class 1 quarterfinal victory over St. Elizabeth on Saturday afternoon, sending the #1 ranked team in the state to the semifinal round.

The contest, broadcast on Hot Country Z 101.7, was played at Fitzsimmons-John Arena at Moberly Area Community College, saw freshman guard Madison Carvajal score 14 points, with fellow guard Korrie Holcer adding 12.  Meadville is now 29-0 on the season, and will play Leeton on Thursday night at 6 (KGOZ FM 101.7) from Great Southern Bank Arena in Springfield.

St. Elizabeth, ending the season at 22-7, did not have a double-digit scorer.

In other Class 1 girls quarterfinal action from Saturday, Platte Valley hammered a Santa Fe team that had ended Mercer’s season four days earlier, winning 50-20.  Platte Valley (Jefferson/South Nodaway cooperative) will play Chadwick Thursday afternoon at 4 o’clock in the state semifinals at Great Southern Bank Arena.  Chadwick defeated Delta in the quarterfinal round 56-54.

Bishop LeBlond advanced to the Class 2 girls semifinals by beating Miller 55-39 on Saturday afternoon in the quarters.  LeBlond takes on New Haven Friday night at 6 o’clock in the Class 2 state semifinals at Hammons Student Center in Springfield.  New Haven beat East Carter 50-40 in Saturday’s quarterfinals.

In Class 3, El Dorado Springs beat South Harrison in Saturday’s quarterfinal action.  In the Class 4, District 16 girls championship game, the Benton Lady Cardinals ended Chillicothe’s season, winning by a score of 50-39.  The Class 4 state sectionals begin early in the upcoming week (boys on Monday and girls on Tuesday).
