Meadville High School sophomore Dominik Gannan had a team-high 23 points on Wednesday night, leading the Eagles to a 72-52 win over South Shelby in the quarterfinals of the Marceline Hoops Classic. The victory moves the second-seeded Eagles to Friday night’s semifinals, and a meeting with the Macon Tigers, a 74-56 winner over the host Marceline Tigers on Wednesday.
On the girls side of the Marceline bracket, Glasgow center Jaden Monnig dominated play against the Milan Lady Wildcats, scoring 32 points, as the Lady ‘Jackets cruised to a 57-27 win. The loss drops the Lady ‘Cats into a consolation semifinal (Friday at 4:00 PM) against Meadville, an 81-28 quarterfinal loser against the #2 seeded Ladybirds of South Shelby.
Semifinal action from Marceline High School starts tonight (Thursday night), with the Putnam County Lady Midgets against Schuyler County in a girls consolation affair at 4 o’clock, followed by a boys consolation semifinal between Schuyler County and Glasgow at 5:30.
Championship semifinals will follow, as the Marceline Lady Tigers look to spring an upset on #1 seed Macon at 7 o’clock, followed by the rivalry matchup between the #1 seeded, 4th ranked Milan boys and the Putnam County Midgets at 8:30. The meeting between the Wildcats and Midgets will be broadcast on KTTN FM 92.3, KTTNSports.com, and KTTN on the Tune-In Radio app, with pregame at 8:20, as Tom Johnson has the play-by-play call.
On Friday, consolation semifinals start play from MHS, with the Meadville girls playing Milan at 4 o’clock, followed by the South Shelby boys battling Marceline. Friday night’s championship semifinals follow, with the South Shelby girls against Glasgow at 7 o’clock, and the Meadville boys challenging Macon at 8:30.
