The Meadville Eagles held off a strong challenge from Brunswick on Thursday night, winning 45-35 in the boys semifinals of the Class 1, District 12 tournament at Norborne High School. The win sends MHS into the championship game, and a rematch with Northwestern, on Saturday afternoon at 2:15. Northwestern, who beat Meadville in the Meadville Tournament title game in late January, hammered Keytesville in a game between the #2 and #3 seeds, 70-47.
In the girls semifinals, state-ranked and #1 seed Norborne survived and advanced, slipping by upset-minded Meadville, 47-39. The Lady Pirates, on Saturday at 1 o’clock, will host Hale/Bosworth, after the Lady Cardinals beat Tina-Avalon 48-45.
The District 12 champions advance to Class 1 sectional games, Tuesday night (6 PM / 7:45 PM) at Chillicothe High School against the winners of the District 11 (Green City) tournament.
