The Maysville Wolverines swept the Trenton Bulldogs in a Grand River Conference doubleheader Friday night from the THS gymnasium, broadcast on KTTN FM 92.3.

For the second time this season, the Lady Wolverines upended the Lady Bulldogs in the opener, although the second go-around was tighter than Maysville’s 49-32 home-court win in early December, as this time around, MHS grabbed a 32-25 victory.

Sadie Smith’s perimeter shooting provided a boost for the Maysville offense toward the ends of both halves, as Smith hit three 3 point shots as part of a game-high 16 point night.  Maysville’s girls are now 5-4 overall and 2-2 in GRC play.  Trenton, falling to 3-6 overall and 1-3 in conference play, had 12 points from freshman forward Madi Moore, but struggled to find a consistent second scorer from the perimeter.  The Trenton offense had a combined 17 points in the first and third quarters, but just a combined 8 points over the second and fourth quarters.

The Trenton boys, much like the girls, struggled to hit shots, particularly in the second half, in a 50-44 setback against the Wolverines.  Trenton started fast, taking advantage of a flat first quarter from Maysville to grab a 10-2 lead after eight minutes.  Maysville got back into the contest with an 18-12 edge in the second quarter, before Trenton scored two points in the third quarter in losing the lead that the Bulldogs never got back.

Caleb Bray scored 16 points and Logan Kimbrell 15 for Maysville, now 4-5 overall and 1-2 in the GRC.  Trenton, in falling to 2-7 overall and 0-4 in GRC play, had 11 points from Preston Harris, nine from Chase Otto, and seven points each from Dylan Spencer and Brycin Loyd.
