The month of May is one in the college basketball offseason, but for Coach Jeremy Esry and the North Central Missouri College Pirates, May was a busy one for setting the direction of the 2022-2023 season.
Numerous in-state commitments were announced by student athletes over the past several weeks. From Independence, Missouri and William Chrisman High School, Cam Dickerson announced a commitment to North Central Missouri College basketball:
A couple of weeks prior to Dickerson’s commitment, the Pirates received the signed paperwork of Mexico (MO) High School guard Isaiah Reams:
NCMC will be searching for a new men’s basketball assistant coach this summer, as former assistant Taylor Lavery is moving up to the Division 1 junior college level, accepting an opening at Howard College under head coach Kyle Cooper.
Meanwhile, two former Pirate standouts have announced their future plans. Kolten Griffin, a product of Lafayette High School in St. Joseph, will transfer to the University of West Georgia to play his final two seasons of college basketball, while former NCMC All-American Jeramy Shaw, after spending last season with NCAA Division One Detroit Mercy, is transferring back to the area, with former Kansas guard Jeff Boschee adding Shaw as a transfer to the men’s basketball program at Pittsburg State University in the MIAA, moving from D-1 down to D-2 in search of increased playing opportunities.
