Maryville holds off Trenton challenge to take tennis quarterfinals 5-2

The Maryville Spoofhounds beat the Trenton Bulldogs in girls tennis quarterfinal action on Monday afternoon in Maryville by a score of 5-2.

The victory sends Maryville into the district semifinal round, with a trip to top-seeded Savannah this (Tuesday) afternoon at 4 o’clock. 

Richmond beat Cameron in first-round action 5-1, advancing the Spartans into a quarterfinal with Savannah, won 5-0 by the Lady Savages.

On the bottom of the bracket, Excelsior Springs shutout Lafayette 5-0 while Chillicothe beat Benton 5-2.  Chillicothe will play at Excelsior Springs in the semifinal round on Tuesday at 4 PM. 

In the Spoofhounds victory over Trenton, the Lady Bulldogs picked up a singles victory from state-bound #1 player and individual district champion Astrid Soriano. 

Maryville’s Kora Grow teamed with Kori Quinlin for an 8-3 victory in the #3 doubles match.  In the #2 doubles match, Lindsey Deering and Vivian Kain won 8-5 over THS.   Grow of Maryville rolled in the #6 singles match by a final tally of 6-1, 6-0. 

The Spoofhounds closed out the victory with a 6-2, 6-1 win from Deering and a 6-1, 6-2 triumph for Kain.
