Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has joined the ownership of Sporting Kansas City, the second move made by the young Texas Tech product after Mahomes became part-owner of the Kansas City Royals last year.

In a prepared statement released by SKC, Mahomes said, “I am grateful for the opportunity to join Sporting Kansas City’s ownership team and strengthen my connection to the fans and the city I love.  Sporting is a community-oriented club and I am excited to continue supporting the growth of soccer in Kansas City.”

Mahomes has played four seasons with the Chiefs, starting the final regular season game of his rookie season before earning the starting job after the trade of Alex Smith.  Mahomes won the NFL MVP award in 2018, led the Chiefs to a Super Bowl championship in 2019, and an AFC Championship in 2020.

Patrick’s fiancee, Brittany Matthews, is co-owner of Kansas City’s women’s professional soccer team, Kansas City NWSL.
