Kansas City Royals rookie left-hander Daniel Lynch combined with four relief pitchers on Thursday evening to a 3-2 road win at Guaranteed Rate Field in Chicago, handing the White Sox their ninth loss in the last 14 games.  The win is the second in a row for the Royals, who are now headed for St. Louis for a three-game weekend series with the cross-state rival Cardinals.

Lynch earned the victory to improve to 2-3, allowing just one run in five-plus innings.  Chicago amassed only four hits against Lynch, as the Royal rookie showed massive improvement over his first outing against the White Sox, a nightmarish start that ended with only two outs recorded, with eight runs allowed on May 8th.

Dallas Keuchel took the loss for Chicago, falling to 7-5.  He gave up with two run double to Emmanuel Rivera in the 1st inning.

Rivera returned to the major-league roster on Wednesday, with his recall from AAA Omaha.  He had been injured on June 29th, breaking a hamate bone.  He was impressive in a rehab assignment in Omaha, including a homer on August 3rd.  Right-hander Kyle Zimmer was placed on the 10-day injured list, continuing to deal with neck and trapezius discomfort.  In July, Zimmer struggled to an ERA of 8.71 over 10 1/3 innings.
