In a late spring cup of coffee with the Kansas City Royals, rookie left-hander Daniel Lynch struggled, with three poor appearances leading to a quick trip back to AAA Omaha. On Sunday, after his recall from the Storm Chasers, Lynch was brilliant, firing eight shutout innings at the Detroit Tigers, with Kansas City claiming a 6-1 victory at Kauffman Stadium.
Lynch (1-2) gave up five hits and struck out four, pitching to contact and allowing his infielders to have a busy day under the Kansas City sun.
Kansas City jumped on Detroit starter Tarik Skubal (6-9) with four runs in the bottom of the first inning, with Salvador Perez bashing a three-run home run and Jorge Soler adding a solo blast. The homer for Perez was his team-leading 23rd of the season.
Soler added his second homer of the game in the third inning, his fourth dinger in five games. Ervin Santana pitched the ninth inning for the Royals and lost the shutout, giving up an RBI to Detroit’s Eric Haas.
